Role Overview:

Oversees all branch activities to guarantee the effective functioning of the branch's operational model, promoting customer and employee satisfaction, digital engagement, operational efficiency, service excellence, sales performance, and personal productivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for maximizing profitability through sales leadership, business expansion strategies, and operational goal achievement within the branch.
  • Guides the team through coaching sessions, performance reviews, and priority assignments. Cultivates and nurtures the branch workforce.
  • Uncovers the Retail and Business Banking customer requirements via the M&T sales procedures, employing various tools and resources to assist customers in finding solutions for both immediate and extended periods.
  • Invests efforts in actively developing Business Banking relationships through outreach engagements, promoting growth opportunities. Enhances the bank's community outreach and recognition through strategic presence.
  • Conducts interviews and hires individuals in accordance with the staffing model.
  • Demonstrates and instructs practices related to customer service and need recognition in an active manner. Maintains and reinforces accountability for the execution of the Retail strategy.
  • Ensuring maintenance of operational and consumer business banking guidelines involves compliance with security and control policies. This helps prevent fraud and ensures the protection of customer assets, meeting regulatory and operational requirements effectively.
  • Deals with complicated account servicing and error resolution problems, including those passed on by other Bankers. Provides training and support to improve and reduce future issue resolution or escalations.
  • Involves all team members and business partners as needed.
  • Handles Business Banking loan requests independently, within the $100,000 limit. Actively groups products and services when necessary.
  • Upholds operational risk controls in alignment with Company and regulatory policies.
  • Nurtures an environment that cultivates a culture of inclusivity and embodies the essence of the M&T Bank brand.
  • Abides by M&T internal control guidelines, promptly implementing internal and external audit points and addressing any matters highlighted by external regulators as needed.
  • Accomplishes additional responsibilities as given.
  • Administers the typical tasks expected of a manager in terms of staffing, performance reviews, promotions, salary recommendations, performance oversight, and terminations.

Scope of Responsibilities:

This role involves reporting to a Retail Regional Manager, overseeing the branch team to achieve annual sales and profitability objectives, and having a comprehensive understanding of branch operations.

  • Maintaining federal registration requirements as outlined in the SAFE Act is a key responsibility of Branch Managers.
  • Branch Managers must stay current on operational, product, and system changes/enhancements, as well as demonstrate good risk management decisions. In addition, Insurance licensing minimum expectations must be maintained as outlined in MTS Licensed Banker Academy document. Business Banking Specialist minimum expectations will be set by both the Branch and Retail Regional Manager.
  • Branch Managers are responsible for both maintaining relationships with current customers and concentrating on business development through active sales efforts and reaching out to potential clients.
  • Branch Managers are responsible for building productive partnerships with appropriate areas of the bank to ensure customer needs, service issues, and employee issues are resolved timely and accurately. Branch Managers are responsible for taking full ownership of customer issues until they are completely resolved.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

  • The responsibility for reporting the performance of branch staff usually lies with Branch Managers.

The combination of formal education and practical know-how needed for a specific job:

  • Candidates are expected to have either a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent of four years of relevant experience. Additionally, a minimum of three years of sales experience is necessary, along with at least two years of managerial experience or proven leadership capabilities.
  • To comply with the Market Manager's directives or branch prerequisites, securing Life/Accident and Health Insurance licenses within 18 months of starting the position is necessary. Training for obtaining these licenses is provided within the first 6 months as per branch policy.
  • Within a year and a half of hire, individuals can progress to become an M&T Business Banking Specialist.
  • Demonstrated a strong grasp of business banking products, services, and skillful client management.
  • M&T Way Certified
  • Being bilingual is advantageous for individuals with a Precision Leadership certification, especially if they are fluent in Spanish
  • Have experience with everyday PC applications, including proficiency in Microsoft Office software for word processing and spreadsheet tasks.
  • A strong preference is given to those with prior internet and email usage.

  • Illustrated success in sales endeavors and enhancing business prospects. Exhibits a fundamental grasp of profitability concepts.
  • Skilled in fostering positive relationships through communication.
  • Proven capability to exemplify and educate outstanding customer service.
  • Capability to interact and operate professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization and external partners.
  • Preference given to candidates with a deep understanding of financial services products.
  • Proficiency in organization, time management, and prioritization is a significant advantage.
