The Senior Credit Director role requires you to lead, devise strategies, and implement underwriting and assessment operations for all business sectors and distribution channels, including Correspondent Delegated and Non-Delegated, Portfolio Lending, and Retail Lending. Furthermore, this position involves overseeing, fostering, and managing the performance of underwriters and underwriting managers within the lending sector. Your duty will be to outline, put into action, and regularly enhance the vision and approach for all underwriting sectors at AmeriHome, guaranteeing synchronization with organizational goals and risk acceptance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Foster, direct, and empower proficient credit operations groups that manage the interplay between sales, risk evaluation, and underwriting harmoniously. Establish objectives for the division and ensure the implementation of stringent mechanisms and processes to deliver timely and precise underwriting, valuation, and examinations, with a constant emphasis on credit excellence, service quality, and operational effectiveness. Oversee the development of Underwriters, Underwriting Managers, and the Scenario Desk team.
• Steer the operational strategy and capacity planning for the Correspondent and Retail Lending sectors to ensure workforce and resources are optimized to achieve production and financial objectives. Spearhead process optimization initiatives to elevate service standards, minimize cost per loan, and safeguard loan quality.
• Collaborate with product and technology teams to design and launch innovative products and digital capabilities, including automation and AI tools, to enhance underwriting consistency, improve efficiency, reduce cycle times, and elevate lender, client, and borrower experience across channels.
• Identify and capitalize on strategic opportunities by leveraging available resources and cultivating strong relationships with clients and business partners. Participate in strategic planning and execution to achieve divisional goals and provide consistent reporting and performance metrics during Monthly Business Reviews.
• Lead and develop a team responsible for recruiting, mentoring, performance evaluation, training, and professional development.

What You’ll Need:

• 15+ years of experience in residential mortgage loan underwriting.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
• 8+ years of experience managing residential mortgage underwriting teams, with senior leadership experience preferred.
• Experience with digital mortgage platforms and automation tools.
• Advanced knowledge of the residential mortgage industry in Correspondent or Retail Lending, including sales, operations, capital markets, and related mortgage products and services.
• Strong understanding of federal and state regulatory requirements, including TRID, ECOA, HMDA, FCRA, Flood, HOEPA, HPML, Appraisal, ATR/QM, TCPA, UDAAP, and Fair Lending.
• Extensive knowledge of mortgage lending principles and underwriting guidelines, including FHA, VA, and conventional loans, loan processing, and automated underwriting systems (AUS).
• Advanced proficiency with mortgage banking technology, including Encompass (LOS), AUS platforms, core systems, and Microsoft Office products.
• Direct Endorsement (DE) or Staff Appraisal Reviewer (SAR) designation required.
• Occasional travel required.
