Supervises the full range of branch functions to uphold the branch's operational framework effectively, such as enhancing customer and staff satisfaction, promoting digital interactions, maintaining smooth transactions, delivering quality service, and boosting sales outcomes. Additionally responsible for achieving personal production targets.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the branch's financial success through strategic sales management, business development initiatives, and operational goal attainment.
  • Oversees team development through coaching, performance assessment, and priority establishment. Fosters growth and advancement of branch employees.
  • Determines the requirements of Retail and Business Banking clients through the structured M&T sales methods, employing various resources to provide customers with options for immediate and enduring solutions.
  • Assiduously develops and nurtures Business Banking partnerships through proactive engagement. Strengthens the bank's impact and involvement in the community's dynamics.
  • Carries out interviews and picks staff members following the staffing structure.
  • Engages in actively demonstrating and mentoring behaviors related to customer service and identifying needs. Strengthens and upholds responsibility for carrying out the Retail strategy.
  • Maintaining operational standards and requirements, including those specific to consumer and business banking, is crucial for regulatory compliance. Upholding security measures and procedural controls is vital for preventing fraud and ensuring the protection of customer assets.
  • Assumes accountability for managing complex account servicing and error resolution challenges, including those raised by fellow Bankers. Gives advice and support to enhance and minimize future problem-solving processes and escalations.
  • Communicates effectively with all team members and partners when needed.
  • Autonomously manages Business Banking loan inquiries not exceeding $100,000. Initiates combining suitable products and services.
  • Complies with applicable operational risk controls based on Company policies and industry regulations.
  • Encourages a space that cultivates a feeling of being valued and embodies the essence of the M&T Bank brand.
  • Follows M&T guidelines on internal controls, including the prompt integration of internal and external audit observations and addressing any issues raised by external regulators as needed.
  • Fulfills any other assigned responsibilities.
  • Manages the standard tasks expected of a manager when it comes to staffing, evaluating performance, recommending promotions and salaries, overseeing performance, and handling terminations.

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Branch Managers are in charge of ensuring compliance with the federal registration criteria specified in the SAFE Act.
  • Staying informed about changes in operations, products, and systems is crucial for Branch Managers, along with exhibiting prudent risk management choices. They are also accountable for meeting the specified Insurance licensing criteria as indicated in the MTS Licensed Banker Academy handbook. The expectations for performance of Business Banking Specialists will be established by the Branch and Retail Regional Manager collaboratively.
  • A key responsibility for Branch Managers is to balance their time between managing the needs of current customers and actively seeking out new business opportunities through sales initiatives and outreach efforts.
  • The primary role of Branch Managers is to cultivate beneficial relationships with relevant bank divisions to efficiently address customer requirements, service dilemmas, and workforce concerns in a timely and precise manner. Branch Managers are entrusted with managing customer issues until resolution is successfully achieved.

The credentials and practical experience expected for a certain role:

  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred, but candidates can substitute with four years of relevant experience. Applicants should have at least three years of sales experience, along with a minimum of two years of managerial experience or evidence of strong leadership abilities.
  • Life/Accident and Health Insurance licensing must be secured within 18 months after entering the position, subject to approval by the Market Manager or branch guidelines. Training for acquiring the necessary licenses is available within 6 months as provided by the branch.
  • It is possible to attain the role of M&T Business Banking Specialist within a year and a half of being hired.
  • Displayed a solid understanding of the products and services available in the business banking sector, as well as adept at managing client relationships.
  • M&T Way Certified
  • A preference is given to candidates who are certified in Precision Leadership and have fluency in both English and Spanish
  • Proficient in utilizing standard PC software, specifically Microsoft Office applications for word processing and organizing information.
  • Preference given to those with prior internet and email experience.

  • Showcased accomplishments in sales and fostering business expansion. Demonstrates a basic comprehension of financial effectiveness.

  • Preferential consideration for those with a robust grasp of financial products in the services sector.
