Casualty Underwriters support the revenue growth and asset quality of the commercial lending line of business by participating in new client relationship development activities, functioning as part of the lending partnership, monitoring existing client relationships, and managing credit risk to ensure that loans are quality assets and well structured to mitigate portfolio risk. They understand the nature of the businesses and industries served, promote and support the banker's loan policies, credit culture, and strategic initiatives, and examine, evaluate, authorize, or recommend approval of customer applications for commercial loans while effectively managing a commercial loan portfolio.
Underwriters rely on sharp analytical abilities, a sophisticated understanding of business finance, and extensive industry expertise to propose and supply solutions that meet customer needs.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
Evaluate the financial information of current and potential clients to determine their financial health and ability to repay debts, conduct regular reviews, assess covenant compliance, and make adjustments to loan agreements when needed.
Investigate all available sources of credit and financial data, including reporting services, credit bureaus, and trade references, while having a grasp of the market and industry in which the customer functions.
Examine the assets used as security for a loan and communicate with borrowers and financial advisors as appropriate.
Gather and portray financial details, industry trends, economic stimuli, and market oscillations in prescribed arrangements, examining proportions, movements, and liquidity.
Craft in-depth and informative credit memoranda that outline risks, repayment sources, policy exceptions, and collateral appraisals.
A thorough understanding of credit culture and loan policies is crucial for advising on risk appetite, adherence to policies, and handling exceptions.
Possess the ability to oversee different loan types, including complex borrower situations, and collaborate with Commercial Bankers to determine optimal loan structures.
Review loan agreements to ensure they are complete and accurate based on approvals to support timely loan closure and funding.
Manage loan portfolios to ensure they conform to agreed terms and comply with loan documentation guidelines.
Stay informed about evolving trends and weaknesses to minimize exposure, lessen credit risk, and address delinquency and loss effectively.
Exercise sound judgment in the use of delegated lending authority.
Support the Special Assets Department in handling troubled loans by overseeing repayment plans, non-accruing accounts, and reducing charge-off exposure.
Remain knowledgeable about market conditions, industry trends, regulatory directives, and analytical tactics.
Showcase effective time management and organizational prowess.
Coordinate with various departments to facilitate timely and accurate completion of underwriting processes.
Keep in alignment with the guidelines stipulated in Seacoast Bank's Code of Conduct.
Education And Experience:
An education level of a Bachelor's degree (BS or BA) or higher in finance, accounting, or business from a four-year accredited college is highly recommended.
The job requires a minimum of ten years of pertinent practical experience in commercial credit review, commercial lending operations, loan structuring tactics, underwriting approaches, financial insight, and portfolio supervision.
An emphasis is placed on candidates with formal commercial credit training.
Competent in refining and preserving effective analytical and risk assessment skills during complex transactional activities.
Proficiency in applying analytical reasoning to assess credit approvals, loan structures, and suggestions for managerial actions.
Understanding diverse sectors and types of business real estate.
Using familiarity to assess economic and market conditions that are significant to designated markets or lines of business.
Capable of evaluating collateral and determining its value through thorough analysis.
Knowledge of commercial lending regulations, procedures, and activities involving loan starts, underwriting, documentation, and evaluating credit risk.
