Position Summary: Audit Officer

The Audit Officer assists in performing and documenting risk-based internal audit activities, including complex assignments. The role evaluates audit outcomes, uncovers control gaps, and offers practical recommendations. This position may also guide portions of smaller audits or special reviews.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a closely related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Four to six years of experience in banking, auditing, or a related environment.
  • Growing knowledge of technology fundamentals, cybersecurity practices, IT network management, IT service operations, and emerging industry trends.
  • Understanding of IT General Controls (ITGCs), IT Application Controls (ITACs), and the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Increasing familiarity with IT, information security, and cloud governance frameworks such as COSO, COBIT, NIST, SOX, and PCI DSS.
  • Strong decision-making abilities.
  • Solid foundation in audit principles, methods, risk evaluation, and documentation standards.
  • Enhanced analytical, audit, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to understand the core concepts behind complex information.
  • Skill in determining root causes and synthesizing information to create workable solutions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with different levels of complexity.
  • Comfort working independently with limited direction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISA, or CIA—or motivation to pursue them—are advantageous.
  • Strong familiarity with Truist Audit Services technology and specialized audit tools.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Information Technology is required for IT-focused candidates.
  • Ability to verify the accuracy and reliability of regulatory validation data and documentation.
  • Experience applying regulatory validation testing procedures and protocols.

Main Job Responsibilities:

  • Strategically plan and conduct client interviews, capturing results through clear narratives, flowcharts, and process maps to explain detailed organizational workflows.
  • Review process documentation to evaluate the structure, effectiveness, and optimization of existing controls.
  • Develop and execute audit testing approaches that incorporate data analysis.
  • Identify weaknesses in internal controls, related risks, and their root causes.
  • Mentor junior team members by providing guidance and developmental support.
  • Communicate identified audit issues clearly to Management and the Engagement Manager.
  • Enhance auditing capabilities by improving risk assessment and project coordination skills.
  • Build stronger understanding of business operations, internal procedures, and compliance with banking regulations.
  • Create audit work papers that meet Truist Audit Services standards for documentation and procedures.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision to meet deadlines and complete assigned tasks.
  • Apply constructive feedback to strengthen performance in future audits.
