Job Description:

As a Casualty Underwriter, you will be responsible for independently evaluating, compiling, and proposing credit determinations for commercial financing transactions. You will also manage a clientele base, analyze risks, and verify adherence to internal directives and industry regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Operates with minimal oversight and holds heightened approval responsibility.
• Develops loan packages for transactions of all complexities, or manages a designated loan portfolio.
• Serves as an expert in specific asset classes while engaging with internal and external clients.
• Authorized to lead the department in specific projects or assignments.
• Demonstrates autonomous judgment in recognizing risks and developing risk-mitigation plans; compiles loan proposals and/or scorecards by analyzing the creditworthiness, collateral strength, and financial stability of borrowers or individuals involved in the loan transaction.
• Maintains credit risk management practices for the specified portfolio on a continual basis.
• Manages and evaluates the work conducted by fellow underwriters, offering managerial guidance as necessary.
• Communicates with internal and external clients to gather information or address discrepancies, inaccuracies, or missing data.
• Conducts activities prior to and after approval to maintain compliance with internal protocols.
• Confirms and authenticates conformity with external regulatory guidelines.
• Gives recommendations on credit outcomes or approves credit determinations if necessary.

Qualifications & Experience:

• The standard qualifications involve having a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of direct industry experience. Candidates with certifications are usually preferred.
• In lieu of a formal degree, a corresponding combination of education, certifications, and practical skills (including military service) could be acknowledged.
• Key skills to have are the capabilities to make credit decisions, perform financial analysis, identify risks, improve processes, make decisions, assess risks, and focus on achieving results.
• Proficiencies involve accuracy and attention to detail, coaching others, analyzing and verifying credit, critical decision-making and thinking, effective communication skills, knowledge of underwriting principles, managing multiple priorities, utilizing office support tools, and performing operational tasks.
• Certifications or licenses are not a must.
