Senior Portfolio Manager

Role Overview:

Responsible for underwriting credit exposure for Wholesale Banking clients and managing a Middle Market or CML portfolio. This role includes daily client interaction, portfolio risk management, and strict adherence to regulatory and compliance requirements. A key responsibility is the early identification of emerging credit issues and industry trends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead the full commercial underwriting process for prospects and clients, including analysis, documentation, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
• Underwrite and structure all client and prospect transactions, ensuring accuracy in real estate valuations, environmental assessments, and UCC searches.
• Provide independent analysis of financial statements, business plans, and key risks, offering well-supported recommendations and credit solutions.
• Maintain deep expertise in client industries and the bank’s suite of credit and ancillary products to recommend appropriate loan structures.
• Ensure all underwriting meets regulatory and compliance requirements and aligns with the bank’s risk framework.
• Manage the assigned portfolio by monitoring performance, trends, and potential credit issues, taking timely action for remediation.
• Maintain risk rating accuracy, complete annual reviews, spread financial statements, and perform all required compliance and regulatory assessments.
• Oversee amendments and waivers within the assigned portfolio while ensuring forward-looking, transparent, and proactive risk management.
• Partner with internal product teams to develop and present credit solutions that meet client needs and align with the bank’s pricing and risk acceptance criteria.
• Provide an independent, current, and forward-focused risk view on assigned clients and prospects, including authoring risk recommendations.
• Manage a complex portfolio with significant credit exposure, requiring strong judgment, problem-solving skills, and independent decision-making capabilities.
• Develop and communicate an independent point of view to influence key credit decisions and mentor junior team members as needed.
• Participate in and lead activities or projects that support the overall Portfolio Management platform beyond day-to-day portfolio responsibilities.
• Deliver high-quality credit and underwriting analysis while upholding strong operational and credit risk standards.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or related field.
• 5+ years of commercial credit analysis experience.
• Mastery-level proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated sound credit judgment and analytical ability.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred:

• Prior experience in a similar role at a commercial financial institution.
• Industry or sector-specific expertise.
• Proficiency with Truist operating systems including COMPASS, MRA, Salesforce, and nCino.
