Position Overview:Internal Audit Specialist

As a Internal Audit Specialist the role involves contributing to the execution and documentation of risk-oriented internal audit activities, which may include complex or specialized assignments. This position focuses on analyzing audit results, identifying weaknesses within internal controls, and proposing meaningful improvements. Additionally, the Senior Internal Auditor may lead specific sections or essential components of smaller audits or targeted reviews.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

• Organize and conduct client discussions, documenting outcomes through written summaries, charts, and visual diagrams to clarify complex business processes.
• Examine operational documentation to assess the effectiveness, efficiency, and overall performance of implemented control structures.
• Design and perform audit testing strategies supported by data analytics tools and techniques.
• Identify internal control deficiencies, related risks, and underlying root causes.
• Provide guidance and coaching to junior team members to support their growth and development.
• Present audit findings clearly to Management and the Engagement Manager for effective decision-making.
• Enhance auditing capabilities by developing strong risk assessment and project management skills.
• Expand knowledge of organizational operations, internal policies, workflows, and applicable financial regulations.
• Prepare audit workpapers in alignment with established Truist Audit Services documentation standards.
• Work independently with minimal supervision to meet deadlines and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
• Actively apply constructive feedback to improve future work quality and outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or a related discipline, or an equivalent blend of education, practical training, and experience.
• Four to six years of relevant professional experience in banking, auditing, or related fields.
• Developing knowledge in core technology concepts, cybersecurity practices, IT network management, IT service processes, and emerging industry trends.
• Understanding of IT General Controls (ITGCs), IT Application Controls (ITACs), and the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Growing familiarity with frameworks such as COSO, COBIT, NIST, SOX, and PCI DSS related to IT, information security, and cloud governance.
• Strong decision-making and judgment capabilities.
• Solid grounding in auditing concepts, approaches, procedures, risk evaluation, and documentation standards.
• Developing skills in analytical thinking, auditing techniques, and facilitation abilities.
• Ability to understand and interpret essential concepts within complex information.
• Capability to identify root causes and synthesize data into actionable solutions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with varying levels of complexity.
• Strong capacity to work independently with minimal oversight.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISA, or CIA, or a willingness to pursue them.
• Experience using Truist Audit Services tools and other specialized industry systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Information Technology.
• Ability to verify the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of regulatory validation documentation.
• Experience developing and performing regulatory validation testing procedures and strategies.
