Job Description:

The Community Banker provides personalized financial support to community members and small business customers. This position builds strong customer relationships by discussing financial needs, identifying appropriate banking solutions, and providing guidance that aligns with First Interstate Bank's Service Pledges, vision, and values.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide personalized customer service through in-person and telephone interactions by answering questions, addressing concerns, and recommending appropriate solutions.
• Open and maintain personal and business checking and savings accounts, retirement savings accounts, time deposit accounts, and small business credit cards, and assist with various personal loan products.
• Review and evaluate loan applications submitted by individual consumers and small business owners.
• Discuss financial needs with customers and prospective customers to understand their goals and recommend suitable products and services.
• Identify referral opportunities for Home Loans, Treasury Solutions, Merchant Services, Business Banking, and Wealth Management.
• Use 360 View consistently to document customer interactions, referrals, and relationship activity.
• Strengthen customer relationships through proactive outreach, follow-up, and ongoing engagement.
• Perform Teller duties as needed, including check cashing, deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, and accurate cash and coin balancing.
• Complete assigned work accurately and efficiently while minimizing errors.
• Participate in community volunteer activities and financial literacy initiatives.
• Remain current on regulatory requirements and follow applicable banking laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Apply appropriate banking practices and job-related knowledge gained through education and professional experience.

Skills and Abilities:

• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

• Professional and tactful communication skills when working with customers and colleagues.
• Working knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft applications, and 10-key data entry.
• Familiarity with digital platforms, CRM systems, and emerging technologies.
• Ability to understand basic instructions, short communications, and memorandums.
• Ability to prepare clear and basic written communications.
• Ability to communicate information effectively with customers and employees individually or in small groups.
• Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and different units of measurement.
• Ability to calculate rates and percentages and prepare or interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to use practical reasoning when following detailed but straightforward written or verbal instructions.
• Ability to resolve routine problems involving limited variables in standard situations.
• Ability to complete assignments promptly and adjust to workload demands and expected deadlines.

Mortgage Licensing Requirements:

This position is subject to the requirements of the S.A.F.E. Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 and applicable regulations. Employment is contingent upon meeting these requirements, including satisfactory background check results.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent GED required.
• Associate's Degree preferred.
• One to three years of banking or related experience required.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Registered Mortgage Loan Originator certification under the SAFE Act preferred.
