Job Description:Portfolio Strategy Manager

Responsible for providing an independent perspective in evaluating and managing complex Wholesale Banking loan portfolios within the bank’s approved lending limits. Works closely with Relationship Managers, Credit Portfolio Managers, and the Credit Portfolio Management Team Leader to deliver effective credit solutions through underwriting, portfolio oversight, deal team leadership, and client engagement. This role involves monitoring assigned portfolios, ensuring accuracy of risk ratings, maintaining covenant compliance, identifying potential issues, and overseeing remediation actions. Participation in strategic initiatives to improve portfolio management processes is also expected.

Responsibilities:

• Independently manage underwriting for both new and existing credit opportunities
• Evaluate industry risk factors such as market volatility, regulatory changes, and competitive pressures affecting financial performance
• Assess collateral quality, guarantor support, and overall credit structure
• Develop financial projections using Moody’s or Excel-based models
• Recommend appropriate credit structure, risk exposure levels, and policy compliance measures
• Monitor portfolio performance, risk ratings, and covenant adherence
• Proactively identify and address emerging credit risk issues
• Participate in client and relationship manager meetings, contributing insights and maintaining strong relationships
• Support initiatives aimed at improving portfolio management processes
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies including BSA and AML guidelines
• Collaborate with Relationship Managers, Credit Risk, and Treasury teams
• Support mentoring and development of junior Credit Portfolio Managers

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
• Minimum 7 years of experience in commercial and government contract lending required

Knowledge and Skills:

• Experience across C&I, CRE, government, retail, and service sectors
• Strong expertise in commercial credit analysis and underwriting
• Advanced financial statement and cash flow analysis skills
• Knowledge of construction lending (if applicable)
• Proficiency in Moody’s or similar financial systems
• Strong decision making and business judgment skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• Ability to structure and negotiate credit facilities
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Strong organizational and time management capabilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively in teams
