Job Summary:Mortgage Lending Specialist

The Mortgage Lending Specialist originates mortgage loans in an assigned non-bank territory. This role involves taking loan applications, conducting preliminary underwriting reviews, and submitting applications for processing and underwriting approval. The individual will follow up to ensure that required documents are secured in a timely manner for processing, underwriting, and closing. The role requires regular engagement in making and soliciting loan sales and performing sales-related activities away from U.S. Bank locations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborates with clients to secure mortgage approvals within a designated non-bank sector.
• Screens loan requests, evaluates them through initial underwriting reviews, and forwards them for approval by processing and underwriting teams.
• Facilitates the quick collection of required paperwork for processing, underwriting, and closing steps.
• Regularly involved in off-site loan selling, with a substantial percentage, at least 50%, of their time spent in locations other than U.S. Bank branches.

Basic Qualifications:

• Obtaining the standard educational level of a high school diploma or an equivalent.
• Experience in mortgage, sales, real estate, or banking for a minimum of one year is expected.
• Ability to travel.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

• Well-developed sales ability.
• Acquiring knowledge of the pricing models and underwriting criteria utilized by varied mortgage insurance companies is crucial.
• Awareness of the underwriting conditions for FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, local bonding programs, and private investors to navigate the approval process successfully.
• Preliminary knowledge of regulations relevant to local, state, and national contexts.
• Proficiency in working without external guidance.
• Skilled in scrutinizing and understanding financial data.
• Being skilled in articulating thoughts verbally and in writing effectively.
• Ideally, there would already be a referral base in place within the given market.
