Job Summary:

In the capacity of a Underwriter Associate, your primary task is to independently review, assemble, and advise on credit verdicts for commercial borrowing deals. Additionally, you will be tasked with overseeing a client base, evaluating risk factors, and confirming alignment with internal regulations and industry standards.

Responsibilities:

• Functions self-sufficiently with minimal direction and holds increased decision-making power.
• Develops loan packages for diverse transactions, irrespective of their level of difficulty, or supervises a specified group of investments.
• Interacts with both inside and outside customers while serving as an expert in particular asset types.
• Could serve as the department's delegate for special projects or initiatives.
• Applies independent assessment to pinpoint hazards and preventative measures; develops loan packages and/or assessment tools through examining the credit profile, asset quality, and financial credibility of individuals or organizations participating in the lending arrangement.
• Assesses and oversees credit risk management for the specified portfolio as needed.
• Supervises and assesses the tasks completed by other underwriters, extending managerial aid where required.
• Communicates with both internal and external stakeholders to acquire information or rectify discrepancies, inaccuracies, or omissions.
• Conducts pre- and post-approval tasks to guarantee adherence to company policies and procedures.
• Verifies and assures compliance with external regulatory stipulations.
• Offers suggestions on credit determinations or grants credit decisions when suitable.

Qualifications & Experience:

• The standard qualification includes a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience. It is common for certifications to be preferred.
• Instead of a diploma, a relevant mix of educational background, certifications, and hands-on experience (which could include military training) could be valued.
• The necessary skills involve making credit judgments, analyzing financial data, recognizing potential hazards, enhancing processes, making decisions, assessing risks, and prioritizing results.
• Core competencies comprise of precision and meticulousness, supporting and mentoring others, evaluating and confirming credit, critical thinking and decision-making, proficient communication, underwriting knowledge, managing multiple tasks, using office tools effectively, and operational responsibilities.
• There is no need for specific certifications or licenses.
