Branch Development Manager

Oversees the branch's operations to maintain the success of the branch's operational model by enhancing customer and employee experiences, promoting digital engagement, streamlining transactions and operations, delivering excellent service, driving sales performance, and achieving individual productivity targets.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Achieving overall profitability by managing sales activities, fostering business growth, and ensuring operational objectives are met at the branch level.
• Supervises and mentors the team through coaching, performance management, and setting priorities. Builds and cultivates branch employees.
• Determines the Retail and Business Banking customer needs within the M&T sales approach, harnessing available resources to support customers in finding both short and long-lasting solutions.
• Conducts proactive outreach to effectively cultivate and expand Business Banking relationships, fostering growth. Positions the bank as an active and valued contributor within the community through strategic engagement.
• Carries out interviews and selects candidates that fit the staffing model.
• Demonstrates and guides actions related to customer service and identifying needs through active coaching and modeling. Ensures and maintains accountability for the execution of the Retail strategy.
• Efficiently maintaining operational and consumer business banking guidelines is vital for regulatory compliance. Upholding security measures and control policies is necessary to prevent fraud and protect customer assets from potential risks.
• Tackles complex account servicing and error resolution challenges, including those escalated by other Bankers. Provides mentoring and advice to enhance and reduce future issue resolutions and escalations.
• Collaborates effectively with all team members and business partners.
• Independently handles Business Banking loan requests up to $100,000. Initiates the bundling of products and services as appropriate.
• Follows applicable compliance and operational risk protocols in compliance with Company policies and industry regulations.
• Advocates for an environment that promotes a culture of belonging and resonates with the values of M&T Bank.
• Adheres to M&T internal control policies, promptly integrating internal and external audit observations and addressing any concerns raised by external regulators as necessary.
• Manages supplementary responsibilities as instructed.
• Performs the usual functions of a manager when it comes to staffing, appraising performance, recommending advancements and salaries, overseeing performance, and handling terminations.

Scope of Responsibilities:

With a reporting line to a Retail Regional Manager, this position involves leading the branch team to fulfill annual sales and profitability targets, requiring a sound understanding of branch operations.

• Enforcing and upholding the federal registration requirements specified in the SAFE Act is a primary obligation of Branch Managers.
• Branch Managers must stay current on operational, product, and system changes/enhancements, as well as demonstrate good risk management decisions. In addition, Insurance licensing minimum expectations must be maintained as outlined in MTS Licensed Banker Academy document. Business Banking Specialist minimum expectations will be set by both the Branch and Retail Regional Manager.
• It is common for Branch Managers to split their time between servicing existing customers and growing the business through proactive sales initiatives and external outreach endeavors.
• Branch Managers are responsible for building productive partnerships with appropriate areas of the bank to ensure customer needs, service issues, and employee issues are resolved timely and accurately. Branch Managers are responsible for taking full ownership of customer issues until they are completely resolved.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

• Branch Managers usually have the role of overseeing and managing the employees at the branch level.

The level of education and professional background necessary for a particular opportunity:

• Bachelors degree, OR, in lieu of degree, Four (4) years relevant experience. Minimum three years sales experience. Minimum two years managerial experience or proven leadership abilities.
• Being compliant with Life/Accident and Health Insurance licensing is expected within 18 months of entering the position, subject to the Market Manager's discretion or branch requisites. The branch offers training for obtaining these licenses within the initial 6 months.
• It is possible to reach the position of M&T Business Banking Specialist within a year and a half of starting at the company.
• Showcased knowledge and proficiency in business banking products, services, and client relationship management.
• M&T Way Certified
• Fluency in Spanish is preferred for candidates who hold a Precision Leadership certification, in addition to being bilingual
• Adept at utilizing standard PC applications, particularly Microsoft Office tools for creating documents and managing data effectively.
• Candidates who are proficient in internet and email are preferred.

Candidates who possess a combination of educational achievements and practical skills are preferred:

• Demonstrated experience in driving sales and fostering business development. Shows a solid understanding of profitability principles.
• Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated expertise in exemplifying and guiding exemplary customer service.
• Proficiency in interacting and functioning professionally with all levels of personnel and external business contacts.
• Those well-versed in financial services products are sought after.
