Job Summary:

The job of an Underwriting Specialist requires a thorough examination of the borrower's financial history and the property's potential for generating income. Key duties include supporting UMB relationship managers in the evaluation and underwriting of new SBCRE managed investment loans based on established underwriting policies and criteria.

Planning and Organizing Your Daily Schedule Effectively:

• Partner with UMB relationship managers to perform credit underwriting duties for existing/prospective client relationships, which may include but are not limited to the following:
• Evaluate the borrower or guarantor's repayment potential through a meticulous credit analysis
• Appropriate loan structuring recommendations
• Assist in the completion and presentation of credit packages for approval by the credit committee
• The process of underwriting document preparation includes analyzing collateral across different asset categories and developing pricing and risk assessment models tailored to each credit request.
• Serve as a mediator between relationship managers and the UMB senior loan committee by delivering loan proposals and furnishing information regarding the review and endorsement of the loan.
• Verify that the assumptions outlined in the appraisal align with the underwriting assumptions and fulfill any approval conditions by reviewing the appraisal upon receipt.
• Supply persistent customer support to current and potential clients, engaging directly with them through either participating in joint sales calls with relationship managers or engaging in direct correspondence with clients, and completing a variety of projects and assignments with a focus on upholding the UMB TUCE guidelines at all times.
• Timely and efficiently address all issues related to the filing of required forms and reports.
• Engage with team members within loan operations, credit analysis, regional commercial banking, business banking, special asset management group, loan review, public finance, capital markets, and international banking to coordinate commercial loan determinations, the closure process, and continuous commercial loan oversight.
• Take charge or join in different REG underwriting projects based on availability.
• Support the professional growth of inexperienced REG underwriters and/or portfolio managers.

• Individuals applying for this position must possess a bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related course
• Excellent communication skills
• Advanced understanding and competence in identifying and managing maturing loans, renewing term loans, restructuring loans, obtaining approvals, modifying terms, and introducing fresh underwriting techniques
• With an expert level understanding, demonstrates proficiency in credit underwriting for all prominent investment commercial real estate property types. Shows strong knowledge of banking services, products, and operational functions
• Ability to comprehend and interpret policies/procedures, loan contracts, and proficiency in understanding credit reports, financial statements, and loan paperwork
• Proficiency in analytical skills is crucial, encompassing tasks like underwriting commercial real estate properties and markets, and assessing guarantor financial statements, which comprise real estate timetables
• Manifesting the talent to self-initiate, demonstrate proactivity, and guide novice peers in acquiring knowledge
• Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and commercial lending software applications
