Job Description:Mortgage Loan Officer

The Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) is responsible for generating new mortgage business from internal and external leads. This role includes taking loan applications, reviewing applicant information, collecting required documents, and guiding customers through the loan process. The MLO sets clear expectations, provides updates, and ensures compliance with bank credit policies and guidelines (GSE, FHA, VA).

Essential Functions and Duties:

• Originate mortgage loans and generate business through referrals, networking, and partnerships (banking centers, realtors, builders, and financial professionals).
• Meet minimum production goals:
• Monthly: 5 units or $1.0M loan volume
• 90-day average: 15 units or $3.0M loan volume
• Build relationships with assigned banking centers and educate staff on mortgage referral opportunities.
• Develop both self-sourced and bank-referred business.
• Maintain effective communication with mortgage operations teams and management.
• Present a professional image and protect customer information.
• Assess customer financial needs and recommend suitable mortgage products.
• Manage the loan process from application to closing.
• Stay updated on lending regulations and ensure compliance with all policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have supervisory duties.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma required; advanced degree preferred.
• Knowledge: Mortgage lending policies, credit analysis, and underwriting requirements; NMLS certification required.
• Experience: 3–5 years of mortgage banking experience, including FNMA/FHLMC, FHA, and VA programs.

Skills and Abilities:

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Financial analysis and interviewing skills.
• Proficiency with computer systems and business tools.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequent verbal communication and active listening.
• Repetitive use of hands and fingers.
• Ability to review documents and operate office equipment.
• Valid driver’s license required (outside sales role).
• Ability to stand, walk, sit for extended periods, and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.

Working Conditions:

Typical office environment with no hazardous conditions.

• Ability to solve problems and interpret instructions.
• Strong numerical skills (interest, ratios, cash flow, debt service).
• Effective reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.

Work Schedule:

• Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
