Job Description:

As a Senior Credit Risk Director, you’ll be accountable for leading, strategizing, and executing underwriting and appraisal functions across all business lines and channels, including Correspondent Delegated and Non-Delegated, Portfolio Lending, and Retail Lending. This role also includes driving the oversight, development, and performance management of underwriters and underwriting managers within the lending channel. You will define, implement, and continuously refine the vision and strategy for all underwriting divisions within AmeriHome, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and risk appetite.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and lead high-performing credit operations teams skilled in balancing sales, underwriting, and risk evaluation. Establish departmental goals and implement strong controls and procedures to ensure accurate and timely underwriting, appraisal, and loan reviews, while maintaining a focus on credit quality, customer service, and operational efficiency. Develop Underwriters, Underwriting Managers, and the Scenario Desk team.
• Direct operational strategy and capacity planning for Correspondent and Retail Lending divisions, aligning staffing and resources with production forecasts and financial objectives. Drive process improvement initiatives to enhance service levels, reduce cost per loan, and maintain loan quality standards.
• Partner with product and technology teams to design and deploy new products and digital capabilities, including automation and AI tools, to improve underwriting consistency, increase efficiency, shorten cycle times, and enhance the lender, client, and borrower experience across channels.
• Identify and leverage strategic opportunities by utilizing available resources and strengthening relationships with clients and business partners. Participate in strategic planning and execution to meet divisional goals and provide regular reporting and performance metrics during Monthly Business Reviews.
• Lead and mentor a team responsible for recruitment, coaching, performance management, training, and professional development.

What You’ll Need:

• 15+ years of experience in residential mortgage loan underwriting.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
• 8+ years of experience managing residential mortgage underwriting teams, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• Experience with digital mortgage systems and automation solutions.
• Advanced knowledge of the residential mortgage industry in Correspondent or Retail Lending, including sales strategies, operational processes, capital markets, and diverse mortgage products and services.
• Strong understanding of federal and state regulatory requirements, including TRID, ECOA, HMDA, FCRA, Flood, HOEPA, HPML, Appraisal, ATR/QM, TCPA, UDAAP, and Fair Lending.
• Extensive knowledge of mortgage lending principles and underwriting guidelines, including FHA, VA, and conventional loan programs, loan processing procedures, and automated underwriting systems (AUS).
• Advanced proficiency with mortgage banking technology, including Encompass (LOS), AUS platforms, core systems, and Microsoft Office products.
• Direct Endorsement (DE) or Staff Appraisal Reviewer (SAR) certification required.
• Occasional travel required.
