Job Summary:Mortgage Lending Specialist

The Mortgage Lending Specialist performs a wide range of duties related to the origination of residential 1st mortgage loans for outside referrals. Meets sales and cross-selling objectives defined by management. This role assumes overall responsibility for the residential mortgage loan from application to closing.Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and following policies and procedures as defined.

Key duties and responsibilities:

• Establish a network of referral contacts by collaborating with real estate agents, builders, and personal relationships.
• Stay informed about the policies and procedures that guide the operations of Fifth Third Mortgage Company.
• Keep up-to-date on the available loan products, processing procedures, underwriting guidelines, and departmental policies.
• Follow the prescribed guidelines for addressing escalation departures from the norm.
• Enter applicant information by electronically filling out the Fannie Mae form 1003.
• Utilize the laptop for communication and to access daily interest rates, check applicant credit reports, interpret Loan Prospector feedback, and send the loan to LOMAS.
• Gather the appropriate documentation from each applicant and deliver the loan package within the specified time frames set by management.
• Monitor the progress of all loans from inception to closure and complete required managerial documentation.
• Make sure branches and/or applicants are kept in the loop by providing timely updates and progress reports.
• Sustain exceptional customer service levels while managing the expectations of both applicants and support staff.
• Be present and take part in all necessary Consumer Lending meetings in accordance with management's instructions.

Skills Required:

• A high school diploma or its equivalent is a prerequisite, and a four-year college degree is recommended.
• Knowledge of standard or government-endorsed loan guidelines.
• being well-versed in residential mortgage processing, underwriting, and closing procedures.
• Knowledge of federal lending regulations governing real estate lending.
• Demonstrated organizational skills.
• Proficient in expressing thoughts through writing and speech effectively.
• Demonstrated effective teamwork strategies combined with quality customer service.
• Proven computer skills.
• Important selling technique aptitudes.
• Resolute determination to thrive in a competitive realm.
